I have long been entranced with the amazing animals that live in Western Australia. With an area of 2,500,000 square kilometres, Western Australia covers one third of the Australian continent. Most excitingly for animal lovers, more than half of Australia’s biodiversity hotspots and a significant percentage of its unique flora and fauna are found here.
As well as being home to iconic animals like red kangaroos and salt-water crocodiles, WA has 141 of Australia’s 207 mammal species, 439 reptile species, 1,600 fish species and more than 12,000 species of wildflowers – making it the largest collection of wildflowers in the world.
Almost 550 species of birds have been recorded in Western Australia. 387 species have been recorded breeding and 16 species are endemic to the state.
